Vidisha- A Memoir

Our stay in Vidisha saw our family of Jai Jagat grow bigger. With our friends from ILC (International Land Coalition) from El Salvador, Equador, Indonesia, Bangladesh, England and Italy joining and walking with us, our strengths are multiplied.

Listening to the land problems in their countries during our tree-shade meetings connects us all as we see similar struggles and problems everywhere.

In the 3-day stay at SATI, Samrat Ashok Technological Institute, we received great support from the management of SATI and the loving people of the whole town of Vidisha.
In an inauguration, Kushwendra Singh, the collector of Vidisha as the chief guest who said, “Jai Jagat yatra is not only to change policies but also to change the mindset. to transform the inequality in our mind, the hegemony in the mind…that’s the power of Gandhi’s teachings.”

We thank J.S Chauhanji for his promptness in receiving ideas and putting them into action. One such initiative was starting up a ‘Centre for Excellence on Non-violence and Peace in Higher Education. Anuradha Shankar, IPS officer Madhya Pradesh and S.C Behar were the chief guests who congratulated this initiative by SATI and also shared their insights.

We reached out and interacted with more than 20000 children in Vidisha. Zavier, marcher from Spain says, “It’s amazing to see the energy of children of Vidisha to work on environment-friendly initiatives. It would be nice to see how we can bring in equal quality of education in private as well as government schools.”
A training on non-violence in action was organized with the focus on non-violent communication and on ‘how to build a non-violent social movement’.

Mudit Srivastava, young marcher says, “I am able to learn through the activities that are happening in the training as it’s helping me look within and grow.”

J.S. Chauhanji, the Director of SATI and the team helped us create ‘Jai Jagat Peace Park’ where all marchers planted a tree each.
